Learn to Design Your Book Cover with AI
(5 chapters - approximately 1.5 hours)
In this course, we are going to learn how to create, format, and design a book cover by using AI as an assistant. This course is not just about generating a front-cover image. We are going to go through the full book cover creation process from research to final layout.
You will learn how to choose the right category for your book, study comparable bestselling covers, and understand what kind of designs are already working in your market.
Then we will calculate the correct cover dimensions based on your book size and page count, prepare the cover template in Canva, and use ChatGPT to help us develop the design direction for both the front cover and the back cover.
After that, we will bring the cover images into Canva and place everything inside the correct Amazon KDP cover dimensions.
By the end of this course, you will know how to research your category, study successful covers, calculate your cover size, create your Canva template, use AI as your design assistant, and prepare a complete book cover that is ready to upload to Amazon.

We will learn how to find the top-selling books in our book category.
We will go through a couple of different methods so you can choose the one that works best for your objective. The purpose of this step is not to copy other covers, but to understand what kind of cover designs are already selling in your category.
Once we identify the most relevant bestselling books, we will collect their covers and use them as market references. These covers will help us study the visual language of the category, including colors, typography, character placement, background style, and overall mood.
By the end of this lesson, you will know how to find comparable bestselling books and download the cover examples you need before creating your own book cover design.
Chapter Length: 8.51 min.
In this lesson, we will calculate the correct dimensions for our full paperback cover spread, including the front cover, spine, and back cover.
We will use a downloadable Excel sheet to enter the important book details, such as the book size and page count. The sheet will help us calculate the full cover dimensions we need before we start designing.
Once we have the correct measurements, we will use that information to create our cover template in Canva. This step is important because the cover must match Amazon KDP’s required dimensions before it can be uploaded.
By the end of this lesson, you will know how to calculate your cover size and prepare the correct Canva template for your complete book cover layout.
Chapter Length: 17.08 min.
We will combine the information we gathered from the previous steps and use it to develop our book cover design direction.
We will use the sample bestselling book covers, the main category we selected, and a detailed prompt that we will give to ChatGPT. The goal is to ask ChatGPT to analyze the market and give us cover design recommendations based on what is already working in our category.
This step is important because we are not trying to create a random beautiful image. We are trying to create a cover that fits our book’s category, attracts the right readers, and looks comparable to successful books in the market.
We will go through the key points ChatGPT needs to analyze, including common design patterns, repeated visual elements, reader expectations, and cover concepts.
By the end of this lesson, you will know how to use your market research and ChatGPT together to create a stronger, more targeted book cover direction.
Chapter Length: 29.12 min.
We will take our front cover and back cover designs into Canva and create the full paperback cover spread.
We will use the correct Amazon KDP dimensions to build the complete layout, including the back cover, spine, and front cover. This step is important because a paperback cover must be prepared as one complete file, not as separate front and back images.
We will place each cover element in the correct position, make sure the layout matches the required measurements, and prepare the design so it meets Amazon’s upload requirements.
By the end of this lesson, you will know how to use Canva to create a complete book cover spread with the right dimensions and layout for Amazon KDP.
